ABOUT THE WILD GOOSE

In 2007, it was Burgundy and Champagne
In 2008, it’s the Med

In 2008 we are inviting you to join us on the Mediterranean coast for lazy days at 4 mph. Wandering tree lined canals, drifting sedately between fields of vines, corn and sunflowers, exploring historic France, discovering tiny hamlets and mediaeval towns.

Oh, we nearly forgot, the sunshine, the food, and the wine! Experience the real France at a speed that allows you to enjoy it.

Our cruises will take us along the three Mediterranean Canals, Sete et Rhone, Midi and Lateral à la Garonne. We may also make short excursions along some of the rivers of the area, through the Etang de Thau or down the Canal de Junction to Narbonne and beyond.

We shall see the walled city of Carcassonne, Toulouse, called the rose red city because of the colour of the brickwork Agen, the prune capital of France and a host of smaller towns with historical connections, especially of the Cathar Crusades. Many of the Mediterranean towns and villages hold summer water festivals, with “Boat jousting” a highlight of the year.

The Camargue is the delta of the Rhone river, famous for white horses, black bulls and pink flamingos. It is a very flat area, marshland and salt lakes with fascinating wild life. For some people, it is a wonderland, waiting to be discovered.

May we suggest that you go to your local library and ask for a copy of “Cruising French Waterways” by Hugh McKnight to find out more?
